Pre-1850: Iron Gall & Carbon Inks

The standard for historical documents. Highly acidic, often eating through the paper over centuries.

1850s: Synthetic Dyes (Aniline)

First synthetic dyes introduced, notably Mauveine. Allowed for mass-produced colored inks.

1945: The Ballpoint Pen (Biro)

Commercially successful introduction of thick, oil-based ink rolling over a metal sphere. Major Anachronism Marker.
